3 Mental Tricks to Beat Summer Workout Excuses

Here’s the scenario: from the first moment you step out your front door on a summer morning, you’re hot. You’re hot on the way to your car. You’re hot as you walk into work. And you’re ready to pour ice over your head when you get home from picking your kids up at camp at the end of the day.

After spending an entire day sweltering and wondering if people can actually see the sweat beading under your shirt and pooling in your bra, the last thing you want to do is willingly subject yourself to an activity that will generate more heat and sweat. But no matter what the temperature outside, it’s important to stick to your regular full body workout at Curves (which is air conditioned, by the way), no matter what the season. After all, it’s how you will stay bathing suit-ready for the rest of the summer to come.

It’s also important to stick with your whole body workout throughout the summer because when it comes to long-term life change, consistency is key. To reach your fitness relationship goals, you must keep moving forward day after day. Even when it’s hot. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when you’d rather hang by the pool. So, here are three ways to turn up your mental game when Mother Nature turns up the heat.

1. Find a good summertime workout buddy

This is one of the most powerful ways to stay on track with your full body workouts. Whether it’s a lifelong friend you bring to the gym or a friend you recently made on the Curves circuit —she should know and support your fitness relationship goals. She should also know how to tell you ‘No way!’ if you happen to suggest that the two of you go for a margarita instead of doing your whole body workout as planned.

2. Write down your fitness relationship goals

At the beginning of the summer, write down the goals you hope to achieve by Labor Day. Maybe it’s to get to Curves at least four to five times a week, or to drop a bathing suit size by the start of the fall. Or, it could be just to seize the opportunity to adopt a healthy eating plan using all of the available fresh fruits and veggies summer provides. If you carry your healthy eating and fitness relationship goals around with you on a piece of paper tucked in your wallet, or even just on a note that’s in your phone, in the moments you feel like bailing from a fully body workout or giving into a craving, you can return to your original goal and remember why follow-through is so important.

3. Get some cool, sweat-wicking workout clothes

Now you have a good reason to invest in some new workout apparel! One of the best ways to stay cool during an intense full body workout is by donning the right active wear. Light, flowy fabrics are best for summertime workout shirts, as long as they aren’t billowy enough to get in the way of Curves equipment. Thin, polyester materials will help wick sweat away from your body, so you stay cool and dry. Workout shirts with mesh or open panels also give windows for more airflow. And make sure your workout pants or shorts are breathable and that all your workout apparel fits properly to prevent chafing when you sweat.

As the summer approaches, it’s important you stay the course with your workout routine and weight loss eating plan. If you aren’t yet a member at Curves but want to experience the atmosphere of a ladies only gym and check out our whole body workouts, find a gym near you.
