I started my journey with Curves in Tampa, Florida. I liked Curves because I liked the fact that I was surrounded by other friendly women and I didn’t have to care about being judged on my appearance while I was there. I later moved to Colorado and joined Curves in January 2012. I was tired of being unhealthy and out of shape. When I joined, my weight was 169 pounds and by the age of 50, I had to have two stents and an angioplasty and was pre-diabetic.
Knowing my very unhealthy family history, I knew I needed to do something so that I wouldn’t become diabetic or have to have open heart surgery so young or, preferably, at all. I knew I needed to lose weight, change my diet and make exercise a part of my daily routine.
The Curves environment is extremely supportive and adaptable to whatever your present mental and physical challenges may be. The choices of circuit, stretching, and classes offered prevent plateaus in your weight loss achievement and keep it interesting, so no time for boredom! We are also given challenges to compete in which I love because I have a very competitive nature. The first challenge I participated in was to walk all the national parks, but technically it was about getting 1 million steps over the summer. From July to August I got 2,151,670 steps, exceeding the challenge goal by over a million steps. In three years since joining Curves, I have lost a total of 30 lbs.**
Thanks to Curves, I have changed my life and become a much healthier and happier person. I hope I can join Curves in the sense of empowering, inspiring, motivating and helping other women.
