“Hey mom, want to go outside and play basketball or go hit some baseballs?” My response was always the same: “I’m too tired and I just want to stay home.” Sitting on the couch watching my boys’ life go by without me was motivation enough. My knees started aching and it was getting difficult to get around. I had enough of the pain and looked at my boys and knew I needed to not only change my life and lose weight for them, but I needed to do it for myself.
I had been to Curves before when I was preparing for my wedding and gained all the weight back after. I knew Curves worked; it not only helps you lose weight, but also teaches you about food and how to change your way of thinking about it. I knew it was time to change my life and start living again.
The journey began when I joined Curves in April 2015. I have since lost 65 pounds** and feel amazing. There were times I didn’t want to go work out, but I just kept telling myself “It’s only 30 minutes.”
I even had a month where I had some personal issues and just couldn’t focus on me. I “fell off the wagon” and didn’t know how to get back on. Thankfully for my husband, who looked at me and made me look at myself in the mirror and told me “look how far you have come, look at what it has done for your life, attitude and energy.”
Since losing the weight and knee pain, I started competing in 5K runs. I started off walking them and after a couple 5Ks I started to incorporate some running/walking and now, I can run the whole thing without stopping to walk!
There will be times you have a bad day, bad week or a bad month, but you need to learn to push through it. Trust me, the results are worth it! Take it one day at a time. Make sure you have family and/or some supportive friends and if not, make sure to reach out to anyone at Curves to be your support system.
