I can’t explain why I finally decided it was the day to stop and actually go into Curves when I had passed by so many times before. I was overweight, tired all the time, and having pain in my knees every day. I was having a hard time keeping up with my grandbabies, hated seeing myself in pictures, and I was finally ready for a change.
I felt welcomed when I walked in, and made an appointment to get things going.
My goal was to simply start moving more and commit to coming to Curves 3 days a week. When I started, I couldn’t do a jumping jack without pain, and a real push up was not a possibility. Squats made my knees ache and having already had 3 prior surgeries, I was afraid I’d hurt myself again. Unlike other gyms, everything is set up for me, and I just come in and get my workout started. The Curves Circuit and classes make it easy to just get going. I started to notice that I felt better after working out, and that made me think, “Maybe I can do this.”
Several months later, I am working out 5 days a week at Curves. I am eating less and moving more. I have lost weight before, but doing it with strength training has made a huge difference in the way I look and feel. I feel more energetic and in control of my health. I am most proud of being able to do the little things that I was missing before, like hiking with my family, playing soccer with my grandson, and bouncing on a trampoline with my granddaughter. I am happy with what I have been able to accomplish and am ready to continue improving my health and fitness. After many years of trying things that didn’t work or last, and just a few months short of my 50th birthday, I feel that I have finally found what works for me. Make yourself a priority for the half hour it takes to complete the circuit. It will make a difference.
