Ever heard of the Atkins diet? Well, meet the man who revolutionized and disrupted the entire health and wellness industry through reshaping the popular low-carb diet program. Now, he is doing the same with the iconic brands, Curves and Jenny Craig, and helping rejuvenate the famous weight loss programs for the next generation.
Monty Sharma, current CEO of the combined Curves and Jenny Craig business enterprise, has a long history of leadership when it comes to improving people's health. He has been with North Castle, a leading consumer private equity firm focused in Health, Wellness and Active Living, since 1999 and has served as CEO at three successful North Castle portfolio companies (North Castle purchased Curves over two years ago and Jenny Craig over a year ago).
Prior to becoming CEO of Curves and Jenny Craig, he was President and CEO at Atkins. In partnership with North Castle, he put together a ten member senior management team to establish the infrastructure which rebuilt the Atkins brand. His leadership resulted in Atkins doubling sales and tripling earnings in just three years. He holds an MBA and a BS from Southern Illinois University and a BA from the University of Calcutta.
A disruptor who is at the helm of altering how we view getting into shape, Sharma is one inspiring individual whose passion for improving people's lives comes through in a tremendously genuine way. MOGUL was thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down with the executive, and to hear the exciting new initiatives occurring at Curves and Jenny Craig.
MOGUL: Why have Curves and Jenny Craig banded together, and how do you envision the companies growing in the next few years?
Monty Sharma: Jenny Craig and Curves share many synergies. Over the next few months, we will be opening nearly 60 dual-branded Curves/Jenny Craig centers nationwide providing consumers with a complete weight loss and fitness experience under one roof. You’ll start seeing these two brands move closer together to help ensure our consumer has easy access to beneficial health tools. We see this as a positive development for consumers, as well as for our franchisees.
