Fate has dealt Evelyn Rodriguez a tough genetic hand.
Curves, she believes, will enable her to emerge triumphant.
Her parents were dealing with health
problems they had never expected. Her
girlfriends were turning 30 and getting more concerned about
their health. Her own years - and pounds - were going up. With all this
swirling around her, Evelyn Rodriguez became intent on changing her
course. When one of her best friends told her about Curves, she knew
it was the time and place to stop worrying and start working.
BEING PROACTIVE "Both of my parents had heart
attacks before 50. And they both have diabetes. I don’t want that to be
me in a few years. Curves has made it possible to keep a promise to
myself to take control of my health and well-being before I turn 30."
SERIOUS FUN
"I am a chronically noncommitted
exerciser, but knowing that the people who work at my Curves -
Miriam, Jane, and Heather - notice when I skip out has made me treat it
more like a responsibility. A great one!"
THE BEST PART
"I have more energy. I used to sleep late and
then take two-hour naps because of flying and driving all hours traveling for
my work and visits with my family. Now I get up earlier and work out. And
naps are rare. I literally have added hours to my day."
MINGLING MAKEOVER
"Like most people, my visits with
friends used to revolve around meals. Now I suggest going for a hike or
something else that’s active. And I am really aware of what I am putting into
my body, whether I’m socializing or not."
BIGGEST SURPRISE
"How enjoyable Curves is. The workout
routine isn’t difficult - no confusing machines to figure out. I have a sense
of community - it’s great being in a place where people know my name,
especially because I’m relatively new to my neighborhood. Also, I like that
there are women of every shape, size, and background. Other gyms can be
like meat markets - Curves is different. And it’s about your whole being. I
feel better mentally and emotionally and I’m less embarrassed about my
body. I feel sexier!"
