In a relatively short amount of time, Curves grew to become the largest fitness franchise in the world, helping women around the globe lead healthier lives. There are two main reasons for Curves' success. First, our practical and effective approach to women's diet and fitness that works with the modern woman’s busy schedule. And second, a supportive center environment. We invite women of all shapes, sizes and ages to lose weight,** become stronger and reach their health goals at Curves. We are committed to providing women with the tools that will empower them to live more fulfilling lives.
In 2012, we launched Curves Complete®, offering women a fully integrated, personalized weight loss and weight management solution that includes the Curves Fitness® program, a customizable meal plan and one-on-one coaching and support. Curves Complete can help reduce fat, increase lean muscle, boost metabolism and help dieters lose weight and maintain weight loss.*** Each Curves Complete Coach has completed a certification program developed in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic, one of the most respected hospitals in the country.
In January 2014, Curves rolled out Curves Workouts with Jillian Michaels.† Curves has teamed up with America's health and wellness expert Jillian Michaels to launch cutting-edge total body workouts that feature the Curves Circuit strength training machines in conjunction with functional bodyweight-based exercises that ramp up metabolism and transform physique. The workouts boost intensity, build strength, burn fat and prevent plateaus.
From the beginning, Curves was designed to be different than any fitness center or gym. We know you will love what you find when you work out at Curves. Come see the difference Curves can make for you.
Curves founders Gary and Diane Heavin are widely considered the innovators of the express fitness phenomenon, sharing a passion for and commitment to women’s health and fitness.
The Heavins opened the first Curves in 1992 in Harlingen, Texas. Their innovative, 30-minute fitness concept combined strength training and sustained cardiovascular activity through safe and effective hydraulic resistance. The club was an overnight success, as it gave women a supportive and comfortable atmosphere in which to work out. In fact, the company’s unofficial motto became “no makeup, no men, and no mirrors.”
When their second club was also immediately successful, they knew that they had tapped a market that wasn’t being served by traditional gyms and that they could help millions of women worldwide. However, they knew they couldn’t do it alone. They needed to find passionate people who were interested in helping the women in their communities and teach them how to run a Curves. They began making plans to franchise the business and the first independently owned and operated Curves opened in Paris, Texas, in 1995. From there, Curves grew to become the largest fitness franchise in the world, helping women around the globe lead healthier lives.
In September 2012, North Castle Partners completed an investment in Curves International, Inc. North Castle is a leading private equity firm focused exclusively on health, wellness and active living companies.
Today, there are thousands of Curves centers around the globe. The Company launches new and innovative programs, plus offerings on an ongoing basis such as new Specialty Classes and Curves Workouts with Jillian Michaels which are updated regularly. Curves is committed to strengthening women inside and out.
